Hellberg Dairy Farm – Potable & Wash Water | Print |

Problem

Hellberg Farm is a dairy farm in Kwazulu Natal.  The use borehole and water from a rain collect dam.  Both the borehole and dam water is pumped into a cement dam.  From this dam the water is pumped to wherever its required for use, either as wash water in the dairy parlor or drinking water for the cows.  The problem is that the water is infected with E-coli, Coli and Total Bacteria.

Solution

We installed a HG102 controller trolley on the incoming water reservoir to control the pH(67.2) and the Chlorine level(4ppm).  We treat the water at this high level because of the high bacteria load and the long distances the water has to travel.  By treating the water, we ensure the water is clean whenever the need occurs to wash cow udders.  This ensures better quality milk in the parlor by preventing diseases in the cow udder like mastitis, etc.  The farmer also now uses clean water to wash out his milking machine and tanks
