ProblemThis plant is situated in the residential area in the town Bela Bela. The old plant used Chlorine gas for post chlorination, but this type of disinfection is a high risk. Due to non compliance on the existing chlorine gas installation and high capital costs requirements for upgrading this facility, an alternative, safe, cost effective chlorination method was opted. Old Chlorine gas installation at Bela Bela SolutionA HTH® Industrial feeder was installed at the post chlorination point after filtration. It replaced the hazardous Chlorine gas (68-kg cylinders) installation. This feeder works on the principal of water flow through this unit, entering a rotameter and then through nozzles at the bottom, dissolves the HTH Chips, and this dissolved chlorine solution falls to the bottom into a holding tank. From this holding tank the solution is gravity fed into the final water that needs to be post chlorinated. The rotameter setting must be between 60 and 120 L/hr for at least 3 ppm Chlorine dosage, depending on the raw water quality (Chlorine demand) to ensure there is minimal re-growth of any micro-organisms during the period that the water are transferred to the reservoirs for redistribution to the end users. The feeder has a capacity of 180-kg HTH® Scientific chips and at full dosage, can dissolve more than 30-kg of HTH Scientific chips per hour without the help of electricity. This dissolved calcium hypochlorite solution is then gravity fed to the semi-treated water that needs to be chlorinated.
New Chlorination system (Industrial Feeder) at Bela Bela HTH® Industrial feeders are very safe and cost effective as a post chlorination system and control the Chlorine residual levels within potable water specifications. Benefits
